The Collection

The Collection consists of photographs and other materials collected by or given to Louise Hogg Roach. Ms. Roach was listed as church historian for the First United Methodist Church in an article which appeared in the Port Arthur News on September 2001, pg. 1. The information and scrapbook from the Nechland Study Club was in her possession because she was the President of the organization when it dissolved.

Biography
Louise is a most independent, intelligent and determined woman. She was born in Ellerson, Arkansas in an oilfield patch and raised in El Dorado, Arkansas. She attended Arkansas State Teacher's College in 1944-1946 then transferred to Texas State College for Women (now TWU) in Denton, Texas. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Institution Management in 1948. She worked for the Nederland Independent School District as their dietician from 1948-1952. In Nederland, she met Dr. Fred Roach, Jr., a dentist and they married in 1950.

Louise has been involved in many activities but most cherished are the Nederland Historical Society and First United Methodist Church. She was a member and served as President in the Sabine Dental Auxiliary and Nechland Study Club. She was involved in United Mrthodist Women, Boy and Girl Scout groups that her children were in. She and Fred sponsored a couple who fled to the United States from Vietnam. She was very interested in the history of the Nederland First United Methodist Church and organized their Centennial Celebration in 2003. She is also very interested in her gamily genealogy.
