Description
Photograph shows the nose art of a B-24D Liberator bomber declaring it the "City of Nederland." The bomber was purchased through the Buy-A-Bomber campaign during WWII. An article in the Chronicle, 14 August 1942 read: "REMEMBER BIG BOMBER YOUR BOND HELPED BUILD? WELL, IT'S READY! Announcement was received here Saturday that five B-24D Liberator bombers for which all Jefferson county bought bonds recently have been assembled, christened and are ready for service on the far-flung fronts. Wrod was received from Fort Worth, where the planes were assembled. One is named the "City of Port Arthur," another "City of Beaumont," and the other three, "County of Jefferson," "City of Nederland" and "City of Port Neches..."
