Description

A similar photo was printed in the Port Arthur News, 16 Sep 1991, pg. 3A with the following caption: "Marker Dedication -- Bruce Hamilton, chairman of the Jefferson County Historical Commission, talks about a historical marker at the site of the first mercantile building, 1166 Boston Avenue. in Nederland. The county commission, along with the Nederland Historical Society, dedicated the marker on Saturday. The marker tells of G. W. Kilsdonk, Jr. a Dutch immigrant and agent for the Port Arthur Land Co., who encouraged people from his native Holland to settle the area in the late 1890s. The original mercantile building was destroyed by fire." Standing at the podium is Bruce Hamilton. Some of the others seated to the right include: Mark Domingue, Ethel Richardson, Marie Fleming, Kathyr Crawford, James Crawford and several others not identified.
